DEVELOPMENT OF STRENGTH PARAMETERS
FOR WASTE PILE MATERIAL
Based on the results of testing, physical properties of the
waste pile material necessary for the waste pile design will
be developed. Such development will rely on data from pub-
lished sources and data for waste pile material from other
underground coal mines in Colorado.
STABILITY ANALYSIS
Using the selected design strength parameters, stability
analyses for the waste pile will be performed. The purpose
of these analyses is to verify whether the original waste
pile configuration, as designed in 1983, is adequate given
the nature of the constructed materials, and to estimate the
zones of the waste pile that are important from the stability
point of view.
WASTE PILE MODIFICATION DESIGN
Two alternatives of the present pile modifications will be
prepared for Cyprus to consider. We propose to prepare a
draft documentation for review by Cyprus and for preliminary
approval by MLRD. Following the Cyprus approval, a final
set of the design modification drawings will be prepared for
submital to MLRD.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
As a part of necessary design modifications, construction
specifications for site grading and earthwork will be pre-
pared. They will include construction methods, lift thick-
nesses, compaction methods, compaction control, site
preparation, drainage, if required, density requirements,
inspections, topsoil handling, and other items required to
modify the waste pile to comply with the modified design.
The specifications will be presented on the design drawings.
MEETINGS WITH CYPRUS AND MLRD
Two meetings have been scheduled with Cyprus and MLRD during
the proposed study: one meeting with Cyprus after the draft
waste pile modification design is completed, and one meeting
with MLRD prior to the preparation of the final set of the
modification drawings and specifications.
REQUIREMENTS OF CYPRUS
This proposal assumes that Cyprus will provide CH2M HILL
with all necessary surveys required for the modification
design, such as the survey of the existing pile and the
DEN/40Y/020 3
