January T003 Ken Coal Compmry * 2002 AnnnalHydrology Report * CO Pesmit No. C-80-006 ~ PaRe 7
4.0 MINE AREA ALLUVIAL GROUNDWATER
Field measurements were taken at alluvial well AO-2A on a monthly basis from March through
October. Field data are presented in Appendix A, 2002 Field Data. Water samples were collected
and analyzed on a quarterly basis, in April, July> and October 2002. As of January 1999, the
parameter list for alluvial well sample analysis was reduced to include only major elements and no
trace metals. The individual analyses of samples collected are presented in Appendix B, 2002 Mine
Area Alluvial Water Quality Analyses. Table 1, 2002 Groundwater~uality Statirtics, includes a summary
of the water quality data for well AO-2A for the 2002 water year. The mean Field and laboratory
parameter values for each of the past five yeazs axe presented in Table 3, Historic Mine Ana Alluvial
WaterQualily Data. The water levels recorded for AO-ZA over the last five yeazs are shown on Figure
1, Mine Ana Grouudmater Levels. Figure 2, EC vs. TDS-Well AO-2A, shows the relationship between
electrical conductance and total dissolved solids levels over the last five years.
Well AO-ZA is located in Bush Draw, downstream (east) of the northern extent of the reclaimed Pit 1
area. In 1992, low water levels and the silted condition of well AO-2 resulted in the inability to collect
samples from this location. Well AO-2A was completed to a depth of 14 feet in January 1993 and
was placed adjacent to well AO-2, replacing the existing well. See Map 1, MineArea Monitariug Stations,
fox general well location.
MLVH * 1475 Pine Grove Rd, Ste. 109, * SteamGYat Springs, Colorado 80477 * (970) 8796260
Y!\Y"V,Awr(m181TA..m'H}b.
