The system performed in accordance with the design. <br />Standing water accumulation in the fo-mer mining pit (now the ash disposal B-Pit), <br />except for surface water runoff within the pit area itself, has been virtually eliminated. <br />The deep eolian sand deposits across the mine site (with the major exception of the <br />clay lined B-Pit), and the sand's high infiltration characteristic, results in a significant <br />loss of surface moisture, due to the "deep percolation" of rainfall during major storm <br />events. <br /> <br />n <br />AHR-1999 -8 0- <br />
