C-81-021)
Dear Ms. James:
The Division has reviewed Walden Coal. Company's 1987 Annual Hydrologic Report
for the Bourg Strip Mine. From the data submitted, it appears that the Bourg
Strip Mine is having a minimal of fect upon the local hydrologic regime.
As the Bourg Strip is currently being reclaimed, future hydrologic reports
should more specifically address erosion from the reclaimed areas, and
the effects, if any, to Mann Draw. In the initial stages of vegetation
reestablishment, more frequent monitoring of both Mann Draw and the reclaimed
area may be beneficial to both Walden Coal Company and the Division.
Informal discussions regarding an appropriate monitoring frequency should
be held when Walden Coal Company submits the proposed sediment control plan
for the Bourg Strip Mine.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
Since rely,
Stev~s
Hydrologist
SGR/vjr
cc: Michael Savage
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
