• ASH DISPOSAL
In 1995, a total of 38,576 tons of mixed fly and bottom ash were transported
to and disposed of at the Keenesburg Mine. A1138,576 tons of ash were
placed in South "B" Pit, which at the end of 1995 contained a tota198,672
tons of ash. This amount is in addition to the 5,667 tons and 131,905 tons of
fly and bottom ash placed in North "B" Pit and "A" Pit, respectively, over the
previous years. Total ash disposed of on site through the end of 1995 is
236,244 tons.
The only ash accepted for disposal at the Keenesburg facility was generated
from coal consumption at the Power Plant located on Coors Brewing
Company property in Golden, Colorado. At the beginning of 1995 this Plant
was owned and operated by Coors; but on September 15, 1995, it was sold,
and operations were transferred to Trigen-Colorado Energy Corporation. By
contract, Coors Energy Company will continue to dispose of the ash at the
Keenesburg site.
The source of coal supplied to fuel the Coors (now Trigen) Power Plant also
• changed during 1995. In accordance with MR-27 and then TR-31, approvals
were sought to "test burn and evaluate," and then to officially switch the
supply source of coal from Colowyo Coal Company to Bowie Resources,
Limited.
Ash "grab" samples were taken at the Coors (now Trigen) Power Plant, both
in conjunction with TR-31 and at the end of 1995. These samples were
obtained from both the fly ash and bottom ash bins. The samples were
analyzed using the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), and
for radioactivity. Copies of these analyses are included in the following
pages.
The monthly ash disposal reports, summarizing the disposal activity at the
Keenesbwg Site, are also found in this Section.
LJ
AHR-1995 -79- STIPULATION #24-25
