Corresponding locations where
inflows were encountered are shown on Exhibit III.
A network of 98 low angle drains were drilled into the
colluvium around the mine entries in spoke-like fashion
around 19 stations in August, 1981. Most of the drains
were dry, Approximately 15% to 20% of the drains were
dripping during weekly observations in the Fall of
1981. Portal construction started near the end of
September 1981.
During the period August 20, 1981 to December 12, 1981,
water levels dropped in some of the piezometers located
• above the portals but in no case was the drop greater
than 2 ft. Several piezometers were dry. Most of these
piezometers were destroyed by portal construction before
the end of November, 1981. Water levels in piezometers
located downs lope showed water level decreases of 2 to 9
feet during the same period. All but two of these
piezometers were destroyed by construction activities
by the end of Water Year 1982.
Inclinometers
above the
inclinometers
piezometers.
.
