OF ~Jhl U.i:.L aioCG;;CES
Please find enclosed a copy of the Annual Hydrology Report
for West Elk Coal Company's Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Underground
Mine. The Report covers the period from July 1, 1981
(commencement of construction of the mine) through the end of the
1982 Water Year.
This report is being submitted as required by MLR Permit
Stipulation 25 (OSt4 Permit Stipulation 10) and contains
information required by MLR Stipulations 5, 9, 13 and 25 (OSM
Permit Stipulations 4, 10, 11 and 13). The Report also contains
justification for modifying the surface water quality monitoring
program currently in place at Mt. Gunnison. As I discussed with
Ed Bischoff during a meeting on November 2, 1982, we are
proposing to eliminate or at least reducQ, the very extensive
water quality monitoring program for those waters located both
stratographically and topographically above the areas we will be
mining. We propose only to eliminate water quality monitoring of
those waters, as described in the Hydrology Report, that we are
certain will not be impacted by our mining activities. Rocky
Bowman and Anaconda staff here in Denver are available to discuss
this with you further.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
Rocky Botrman or myself.
Sincerely,
Paige`.
