Rain fall for the year to date
has been near average, 10.85 inches as compared to 10.90. The vegetation appears to be
in better condition, perhaps due to some rainfall in the normally dry months. This azea
was leased by one of the company employees for livestock grazing.
Cut 3 Grasses and volunteer plants (Cotton Wood and Tamarisk) continue do well. The 5ve
trees transplanted into this area have died.
Cut 4 The 1996 seeding area on the west end of this azea is doing well.
Cut 5 Placement of overburden has ceased temporarih~ until muting actitities resume in the
north portion of the quarry. A monitoring well for a ground water study has been
established in the non-mined area at the north end Two other wells were
installed in other areas.
Cut 6 Deposition of cement kiln dust (CKD) has been discontinued. The dust has
been covered to prevent wind erosion but an additional 2 fcet of cover fr required in
addition to one toot of topsoil. The grasses and shrubs continue to do well on the west
end.
Cut 7 Limestone mining has been discontinued. A deaatering pump has been
installed in the sand pit in the southern end. A power tine for this pump was irtctalled
from the pump south towards the conveyor between the two crushers. An additional
sand pit has been started in the north end.
Cut 8 This area was backfilled approximately IO feet with overtwrden from Cut 12 in
preparation for CKD placement. Deposition of Cement Kiln Dust has commenced in the
eastern one half.
Cut 12 Approximately 50 % of the overburden has been remm•ed ,the remainder
will be removed in conjunction with mining in Cuts 10, 14 and 16. The active limestone
mining face is in the southwest portion. Aground water study monitoring well was
installed south of tite access road on the south side of this Cut
