M77-344 <br />FREMONT COUNTY. COLORADO <br />HOLNAM INC <br /> <br />Cats 1 & 2 The vegetation on both of these cuts continues to do well. Rain fall for the year to date <br />has been near average, 10.85 inches as compared to 10.90. The vegetation appears to be <br />in better condition, perhaps due to some rainfall in the normally dry months. This azea <br />was leased by one of the company employees for livestock grazing. <br />Cut 3 Grasses and volunteer plants (Cotton Wood and Tamarisk) continue do well. The 5ve <br />trees transplanted into this area have died. <br />Cut 4 The 1996 seeding area on the west end of this azea is doing well. <br />Cut 5 Placement of overburden has ceased temporarih~ until muting actitities resume in the <br />north portion of the quarry. A monitoring well for a ground water study has been <br />established in the non-mined area at the north end Two other wells were <br />installed in other areas. <br />Cut 6 Deposition of cement kiln dust (CKD) has been discontinued. The dust has <br />been covered to prevent wind erosion but an additional 2 fcet of cover fr required in <br />addition to one toot of topsoil. The grasses and shrubs continue to do well on the west <br />end. <br />Cut 7 Limestone mining has been discontinued. A deaatering pump has been <br />installed in the sand pit in the southern end. A power tine for this pump was irtctalled <br />from the pump south towards the conveyor between the two crushers. An additional <br />sand pit has been started in the north end. <br />Cut 8 This area was backfilled approximately IO feet with overtwrden from Cut 12 in <br />preparation for CKD placement. Deposition of Cement Kiln Dust has commenced in the <br />eastern one half. <br />Cut 12 Approximately 50 % of the overburden has been remm•ed ,the remainder <br />will be removed in conjunction with mining in Cuts 10, 14 and 16. The active limestone <br />mining face is in the southwest portion. Aground water study monitoring well was <br />installed south of tite access road on the south side of this Cut <br />
