relative cover values. Cover data will also provide the basis for calculation of species
composition and diversity.
Woody Plant Density
Woody plant density will be evaluated through use of belt transacts. Two by twenty-Sve
meter transacts (50 square meters in area) will be located adjacent to the cover transacts.
Woody plants rooted within the transact will be counted by species.
Species Composition
Species composition will be calculated from quantitative vegetation cover data. Relative
cover data will be derived for the plant species present in the reclaimed areas. The relative
cover data will be ranked to determine the importance of the species in the reclaimed
areas.
Sample Numbers/Sample Adequacy
Since the purpose of this sampling is the monitoring of the vegetative condition at the
revegetated areas of the mine, sampling need not meet sample adequacy requirements. A
total often (10) cover transacts and ten (10) woody plant density transacts is proposed for
each of the following areas; the CRDA #1 benches, the CRDA #2 benches, the CBA #1
azea, and the North Decline Area. Minirnum sample sizes and standazd deviation will be
reported as an indication of vaziability of the sampled parameters. Comparisons between
sample mean pazameter values assume that the sample mean value accurately represents
the population mean in all cases.
Monitoring Summary Report
Savage and Savage will prepare a technical report addressing vegetation condition of the
revegetated areas, the results of the 1999 monitoring, analysis of the physical character,
and developmental trends of the vegetation. Pertinent maps, Sgures, and tables will be
prepazed to graphically illustrate results, conclusions, and any trends.
Task 2: CRDA #3 Vegetation Sampling (proposed disturbed and reference area(s)
Prior to disturbance and construction of the CRDA #3, the natural vegetation of the
proposed disturbed azea will be quantitatively characterized for vegetation cover, total
herbaceous production, woody plant density, and species composition. The area to be
disturbed will be compazed to the three existing vegetation reference areas, or a new
reference azea will be selected and sampled to represent the new CRDA #3 disturbed area.
-2-
