Saturated Hydraulic <br />Conductivity <br />Fine Soil <br />particle size (inches) <br />Saturated Hydraulic <br />Conductivity <br />2.2 TOPSOIL <br />reported for design of <br />filter fabric ASTM D 2934/ <br />ASTM D 5089 <br />See ASTM D 422 <br />Filter Criteria - max <br />size 3.0 inches <br />reported for design of <br />filter fabric ASTM D 2939! <br />ASTM D 5089 <br />Topsoil shall consist of natural, friable soil that is representative of <br />soils in the vicinity which produce heavy growths of crops, grass, or other <br />vegetation and is reasonably free from underlying subsoil, clay lumps, <br />objectionable weeds, litter, brush, matted roots, toxic substances, or any <br />material that might be harmful to plant growth or be a hindrance to <br />grading, planting, or maintenance operations. Soil from ditch bottoms, <br />drained ponds, or eroded areas shall be dried to an approved moisture <br />content prior to use. Topsoil shall also comply with following criteria: <br />Topsoil <br />pH <br />Organic content (o) <br />Saturated Hydraulic <br />Conductivity <br />2.3 GEOSYNTHETIC FABRIC <br />5-7 ASTM D 4972 <br />20 or greater ASTM D 2974 <br />reported for design of <br />filter fabric ASTM D 5084 <br />The geotextile fabric shall serve multiple functions. <br />• provide strength for retention of the lower soil lifts as a <br />retaining wall and intercept the estimated potential failure plane <br />of the soil mass <br />• act as a filter to retain different gradations of materials <br />• provide a permeable surface to allow water seepage for vegetation <br />and prevent pore pressure build-up behind the wall <br />The geotextile shall be a pervious sheet of plastic yarn as defined by ASTM <br />D 123. The geotextile shall equal or exceed the minimum average roll <br />values listed in TABLE 1, MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR <br />RETAINING/DRAINAGE GEOTEXTILE. Strength values indicated in the table are <br />for the stronger principal direction. <br />02340-5 <br />
