Digital Submission of 1996 Annual Reclamation Report <br />Seneca Coal Company (SCC1, in cooperation with the Colorado Division of Minerals and <br />Geology, submits the Seneca II 1996 Annual Reclamation Report with maps on floppy disc. The <br />maps are AutoCAD Version 12 drawings and can be overlaid with 1995 su6mi[tals by inserting <br />at point 0,0. Also, an updated existing topography contour map is included on disc. Please <br />follow the instructions on the disc to bring this drawing in [o a working directory. <br />1996 Disturbance Area <br />No additional area was die turbed during 1996 at Seneca II Mine. See Exhibit 9~3a, Erom the <br />1995 report for the limits of disturbance as of December 31, 1996. <br />Backf filling and Grading <br />No new acres were graded during 1996. Seneca personnel are currently preparing a final <br />reclamation plan Eor the Seneca II Mine. This plan will be finished by June 1997 and <br />submitted to the Division for approval. This plan will depict acres to be graded, sequence <br />of grading, topsoil replacement and revegetation schemes for the final pit reclamation. <br />Soil and Spoil Monitoring <br />Seneca Coal Company (SCC) fie required by Permit C-SO-005 to monitor the salvage, storage, <br />and redie tr ibution of soil and spoil handling operations at Seneca II Mine. Specific <br />programs include documenting soil recovery, verifying soil redistribution thickness, <br />determining final graded spoil quality, determining soil fertility, evaluating plant <br />rooting characterie ti cs, recording the source of replaced soil, and completing an annual <br />soil balance. The following sections preaen[ the soil and spoil monitoring da [a Eor the <br />1996 calendar year. <br />Soil Recovery Documentation <br />Soil recovery limits and depth were not recorded in 1996 due to no additional areas having <br />topsoil removed from them. <br />Soil Pit - Spoil Fertility - Spoil Quality <br />Soil fertility and spoil quality samples are collected periodically from shallow pos[mine <br />soil pits which are randomly located. The pos [mine soil pits are also used to evaluate <br />. plant rooting characterie[i cs and to compare soil/spoil profile data with site specific <br />revegetation data. <br />
