• WATER QUALITY SAMPLING PROTOCOL
Procedure
The grotmd water sampling procedure used at the Keenesburg Mine site was
approved as part of the Coors Energy Company (CEC) Application for Permit
Renewal (1997). CEC began employing this procedure with the fotrrth
quarter, 1997 sample collections. (Consent to dispose of Mine Waste Rock
at the Keenesburg site resulted in some minor changes to the ground water
monitoring plan as approved by Colorado Department of Public Health and
Enviromnent (CDPHE). These changes were effected with the 4`h Quarter
1998 sampling. However, field collection procedures order of sampling, field
measurements, frequency, etc.; all of these protocols remain essentially
unchanged.) CEC continues to perform the ground water sampling on a
quarterly basis, and tl~e ] 998 analytical laboratory work was completed by
Accu-Labs Research, Inc. (Golden, Colorado).
• Ground Water Monitoring and Qualit~ysis
The formal b~-ound water sampling program for the Keenesburg Mine was
initiated in 1992. Ground water quality information has been obtained from
monitor wells, located upgradient, within the dishn~bance area and
downgradient to the mine site. The monitoring program provides a basis for
comparison of information between a baseline and the existing site conditions
relative to ground water flow and water quality at the site.
The water quality test results, obtained from the data collected in the field and
from the analytical ground water quality analyses, continue to suggest that
overall groundwater quality in the area has not been adversely impacted by
the Keenesburg Mine operation or the current recalmation activities, to
include the ash disposal operation. (Since the mine waste rock was only
recently introduced to the site (Fall of 1998), its possible impact has yet to be
measured.) General b~round water Flow patterns to not appear to have been
si~n~ificantly inthienced (or interrupted) by the past mining activity or the
current existence of the ash disposal pits.

AHR-1998 -51- Stipulation tt5
