Banta. <br />Division Director <br />We have recently reviewed the Weaselskin Pit Annuai Report. The report indicates <br />that the site has been, and may continue to be, inactive for at least six months. <br />Please refer to the hlinerals Rules and Regulations Sections 1.6.2 and 1.6.2(2)(a) <br />which state that if an operation ceases production for a period f 180 days or <br />more, the operator musi file a Notice of Temporary Cessation wit the Board. This <br />notice must state the date of cessation, the reasons for cessati n, a plan for the <br />resumption of mining, a description of those activities the oper for will take to <br />ensure compliance with the permit reclamation requirements and a description of <br />site maintenance activities to ensure compliance with the perfor nce standards <br />(Rule 6). The Notice of Temporary Cessation should be sent to t e Division <br />separate from other correspondence. <br />As an alternative to temporary cessation, you may amend your per it to indicate <br />that the operation will be intermittently active throughout its life. The <br />amendment application must include a description of those activi ies the operator <br />will undertake to ensure compliance with the permit reclamation equirements, and a <br />description of the site maintenance activities which will ensure compliance with <br />the performance standards (Rule 6). Rule 1.6.2(2)(d) addresses is amendment. <br />Since the annual report indicates that operations have temporaril ceased, you <br />should submit either a request for temporary cessation or a perm t amendment within <br />the next 45 days. If the request indicates that the site is suf iciently <br />stabilized, we will approve the request for cessation within six y days. If the <br />request indicates that there may be some problems with the site, we will either <br />request more information from you, or schedule the site for an i spection. If you <br />submit an amendment to the permit, we will process it within 30 0 90 days for 110 <br />and 112 operations, respectively. <br />If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call. <br />Sincerely, <br />Barbara D.
