J. J. Dudash 2 January 12, 2006
3. In Figure 170 for alluvial well AW-16, there are three field comments that state
that the alluvial water was "soapy". Please explain what is meant by "soapy".
Also, since this alluvial well is directly down gradient of the gob pile no. 2,
please discuss what this field finding may mean for water quality coming from
the gob pile.
BRL - AW-16 has been basically dry since it was drilled. There has never been
adequate water to bail and clean the well. The water present at the bottom of
the well has been characterized by the sampler as muddy and soapy at
different times. The soap is likely residue from drilling with foam.
4. The data presented in Figures 81 and 88 for surface water monitoring stations
B-Gulch-lo and C-Gulch-lo respectively have relatively high values for
_ __. _ _ _ _ ~_ _conductivity_a~d_certain~onstituents__such as_iron,.sodium,_sulfate_and_calcium. _ _ _- _
Is the Division correct in assuming that these samples were obtained from
washdown water from the mine facilities before flowing into sediment ponds B
and C, rather than from a precipitation event?
BRL -Yes. The samples are obtained at the inlet to the sediment ponds.
2004 Bi-Annual Subsidence Report
On Map 276, "Subsidence Features" of the Annual Report, there are cross-
hatched black and white areas with a "no cracks" notation followed by a date.
Is the Division correct in assuming that this refers to areas that showed
subsidence cracks in 2004 but which eventually healed by the listed date?
Also, the Division requests that a note be added to Map 276 for future Annual
Reports that clarifies the meaning of this designation.
BRL - The cross-hatched black and white area indicates the locations
inspected on the date noted. The "no cracks" notation indicates there were no
new subsidence cracks identified during the inspection.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
~~~~1
J.
