The following information is
pertinent to the interpretation of this data package.
Please note that the total cyanide method duplicates analyzed on
October 20, 1993, for samples RCG-SU and RCG-6U (Core Laboratories
identification 932003 5-6), did not meet acceptance criteria. The
samples were reanalyzed for total cyanide and reported under Core
Laboratories identification 932003 11-12. In order to expedite the
reanalysis for T-CN on samples RCG-5U and RCG-6U, quality assurance
consisted of a laboratory control sample and calibration
verification. All reanalysis was performed past the recommended
holding time of 14 days. Problems with cyanide recovery on this type
of matrix have been encountered in the past with samples submitted by
RCG Hagler-Bailly. The problem is under investigation.
The weak acid dissociable cyanide matrix spike analyzed cn October
21, 1993, and a total cyanide matrix spike analyzed on October 20,
1993, reported high recoveries (1330 . Both samples were fortified
with 0.25 mg/L of cyanide. Dilution of the color was required to
bring the sample absorbance down to within the standard concentration
range. This dilution also reduced the amount of fortification,
significantly affecting the spike recoveries.
The analysis for total cyanide on sample RCG-3U (Core Laboratories
identification 932003-003) exceeded the recommended holding time by 2
days. The sample was placed on the wrong shelf in the cold storage
area and was not found until after the holding time had expired.
Analysis was performed the day the sample was found.
Patrick J.
