SAN JUAN COUNTY ROAD DEPARTMENT
1512 Greene Street, P.O. Box 466
Silverton ,Colorado 81433
August 22, 2005
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Eureka Gravel Pit # M-1990-070
San Juan County
The Eureka Gavel Pit M-1990-070 in San Juan County is and has been an
inactive mining gravel operation and a reclamation only status since the Mine
Land Board ordered a cease to all mining operations On July 29th, 2004.
San Juan County has meet most requirements set forth by the board and
recommendations by the Minerals and Geology inspector. The County has done
the following steps to meet the MLRB requirements since 2004.
1. A slope stability study was done and the report was submitted to the
inspectors and the MLRB. This cost he County over $7,000.00.
2. The new reclamation plan was submitted to Minerals and Geology.
3. The required signage was done on County road #25 above the pit area.
4. Some minor widening has been done on CR-25 and more will be done by
the end of September of 2005.
5. The catchment trench at the base of the excavated slope will be done by
the end of September 2005.
I have had a couple of conversations with Wally Erickson about this gravel pit
and have followed his recommendations. The County is waiting or a letter of
acceptence of the new reclamation plans and for a new 112 C reclamation only
permit application if that is going to be a requirement for the county and for the
revised recommendations from Minerals and Geology.
San Juan County would like to thank Wally Erickson for alt his help in this
process.
