discharge point to discharge mine water directly to Hubbard Creek. Discharge
point 004 was established in a new permit issued September 26, 1985. Discussion
of this discharge is given in the Mine Water portion of this report.
The only spring monitored during the year was in the draw north of the mine. There
was measureable flow in June, July and November. The quality of this water as
measured by conductivity appears to be similar to other ground water near by,
especially the north bench underdrain.
GROUND WATER
The well near the 111 pond was not used during 1985 therefore no sampling was done.
Piezometers P-1, P-2 and P-3 were installed on the middle bench of the restabilized
mine bench on June 26, 1985. These piezometers are located near the design location
shown in the bench monitoring plan submitted to the Division April 30, 1985. A
fourth piezometer, P-4, was installed November 6, 1985 on the top edge of the
bench near S-6. The following information further describes these piezometers:
Top of htax Bottom
Ground Pipe Bottom Excavation Perforated
Piezometer Elevation Elevation Elevation Elevation Length
P-1 6399.7 6402.3 6374.5 6831 20'
P-2 6399.0 6399.0 6347.2 6350 45'
P-3 6383.6 6385.4 6332.9 6348 42'
P-4 6478.1 6480.0 6440.0 6453 32'
These piezometers were monitored monthly For water level since installed with
the following results:
Average Average
Piezometer Water Level Elevation
P-1 21.2 6381.1
P-2* 50.3 6348.7
P-3 42.4 6343.0
P-4 21.4 6458.6
*Total depth of the hole used to calculate average water level when no water
found. The water level on P-1 through P-3 is at or below the level of the
coal waste placed in the bench. The water level on P-4 is 5.6' up into the
waste.
