• Surface Nater
Table 73 lists pertinent information on all NPDES, stream, end spring monitoring sites aC
the Seneca II Mine. A complete description of the surface water monitoring program may be
found on Pages 7-161 to 7-169 of the Seneca II Permit Application Peckege. NPDES
Discharge Points 002, 003, 004, and 008 are monitored weekly. Stream Monitoring Sites
SW•52-1, 2, 5, end b ere monitored monthly from March through October. All of the NPDES
and Stream Monitoring Sites 1, 2, 5, and 6 are setup led three times a year for water
quality. The first sample of the year is collected prior to peak runoff (March); the
second sample is collected after peak runoff (May or June); and the third sample is
collected during base flow conditions (September). Samples collected at all these sites
were analyzed using the surface water long list, Table 14 (Appendix A). The two stream
monitors on Fish Creek (Sites 11 and 13) and the two on Fish Creek tributaries (Sites 10
and 12), are monitored monthly from May through September, Yhen no flow is observed aC
the Cow Camp or Bond Creek sites (Sites 11 and 13 ), the two Fish Creek sites (Sites 10 and
12) are not monitored. This year, monitoring occurred at these four sites in May and
June.
• At the Seneca II Mine, there are four springs (native) that are sampled annually (in May).
Ten spoil springs are monitored in the spring season each year after the ground had dried
from snowmel t. In addition, Spoils Spring #1 was monitored for the long list concurrently
with Site Sw-S2-b, and was monitored biweekly and concurrently with NPDES 004 for flow and
field parameters from March to June.
Surface water quality data ere presented in Appendix E. Date for each site begins with a
flow hydrograph of ell historic date (plus an annual hyd rograph for NPDES sites), followed
by a statistical summary of water quality data for the current water year, and then a
listing of individual water quality and quantity data for the current water year. Percent
milliequivalent values (used to determine water quality type) are presented in Tables 15
through 18. Crest stage gage rating curves are presented in Appendix F. NPDES discharge
monitoring reports (OMRS) are presented in Appendix G. Lab samples are handled
identically to procedurec discussed previously in the ground water section. For the sake
of brevity, the Sw-S2- prefix that precedes all surface water site names will often be
dropped throughout the following text. As an example, Site SW-S2-5 will be referred to as
site 5.
9
