Page 2
for the year was selected as this years area that will not be
seeded for comparison on vegetation success from live handling.
This area involves both the 1.1 acre location at the site of the
old substation and the 24.2 acre tract labeled "BLOCK # 4" on
Exhibit 4. The remaining 38.3 acres will be seeded in the spring
of 1994. As required in the Edna Mine Permit topsoil samples were
taken from the area to be seeded to determine both depth and
nutrient quality of the topsoil. A composite sample from 7
different locations was taken and sent to ACZ laboratory for
analysis. The results of this analysis are included in Appendix B
of this report. The average depth of topsoil at these seven
locations was 22.1 inches. Depths ranged from a maximum of 30.0
inches to a minimum of 17.5 inches. The topsoil samples were
collected on October 4, 1993.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES SEEDED:
Permanent revegetation areas added for 1993 were all in the Moffat
mining area. 25.3 acres were covered with live handle topsoil and
will not have seed applied. This is consistent with approved
plans to test plots of non-seeded areas on the Moffat Lease.
These areas are on the eastern extremes of the Moffat mining area
and are shown in Exhibits 1, 2 and 4. An additional 28.2 acres
was seeded with the approved seed mix in the spring of 1993. This
area lies in the middle section of the Moffat lease between the
middle and lower haul roads. This area is shown on Exhibits 1 and
4.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES PREVIOUSLY PLANTED:
Exhibits 4 and 5 show locations of permanent revegetation areas at
the Edna Mine. Exhibit 4 recaps progress to date on the Moffat
Area revegetation and Exhibit 5 is an overview of the entire
permit area. Table 1 recaps the yearly acreage figures for final
seeding. Appendix A contains the approved seed mixes used at the
Edna Mine encompassing the years covered.
