Summarization of project accomplishments for 2001:
• The outside crossover transfer belt was rebuilt to improve baghouse performance.
A repulper system was installed to reduce fines in the product sold from the storage
dome.
• A second cooling tower was installed to increase cooling in crystallizer #4.
• All flow-switching valves were replaced using a triaxial stainless steel butterfly valve.
To date no failure has occurred on any of the new flow-switching valves.
Water conservation measures continued to be installed or improved. As needed or
when the pump was made available, double RO seals were installed.
• Well 4A-6V was recompleted as a recovery well. A commercial downhole screen and
• a submersible pump were installed.
• A second commercial screen was installed in cavity #3A recovery well 3A-5V.
Following two months of operation, the downhole screen failed.
• Well 2B-3C was converted to an injection well. The well was cemented to surface and
the casing pressure tested to 300 psi per the UIC permit. Connection was made to
cavity #3 using short radius drilling technology. No connection was made to cavity
#1A after drilling a total of 220 feet. Surface pipe and wellhead with sensors were
installed for the 26-3C well.
• Cavities #1A, 3A, and 4A continue to produce quality brine with low chlorides.
•
6
