the contention that the shallow ground water system at the mine and
• the adjacent area is a poor source of water. The transmissivity
values recently determined range from 2 to 58 ft2 day-1 In light
of the recent aquifer test results, further tests are planned for
the 1987 field season. These tests will be performed on wells
located in the Nucla East Mine area.
E. Ground Water Quality
PCC monitored the ground water quality in wells GW-N1, N3, N4,
N5, N6, and N9 on a semi-annual schedule between October 1979
and December 1982. In 1963, at the request of the CMLRD, the
monitoring program was revised (see Appendix A}. The reduced
monitoring program stipulated that only monitor wells GW-N3, N4,
N9, and N10 were required to be sampled semiannually for water
quality analyses. Because monitor well GW-N10 has been dry since
it was constructed, no samples have yet been able to be collected
from it.
• The ground water quality data are presented in Appendix G. The
ground water samples are analyzed according to the ground water
parameter list presented in Table 22.
Statistical summaries of the water quality for each of the
sampled monitor wells are presented on Tables 27 through 32. A
trilinear diagram representing the mean of the water quality
analyses for each of the sampled monitor wells is presented on
Figure 17. The mean EC and SAR values for each of the sampled
monitor wells are plotted on Figure 18. Figures 19 through 24
present plots of depth to water (DTk) and total dissolved solids
(TDS) versus time for each of the sampled monitor wells.
The distribution of major ions in the ground water from each
monitoring well, as depicted on Figure 17, have remained
essentially the same since the data was last reported in 1981. The
• ground water collected from the monitor wells can be classified as
a calcium-magnesium-sulfate type. The SAR conductivity
87
