Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 2 Mine
• 1999 Annual Hydrology Report
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: SMALL AREA EXEMPTIONS
The locations of the small area exemptions are presented on Permit Map 20. The Applicant will
monitor the flow from the small area exemptions to assure compliance with 4.05.2(3). The
Applicant will use its best efforts to obtain samples. The samples will be analyzed for pH,
conductivity and total settleable solids. Samples will be in compliance if they contain settleable
solid levels of 0.5 ml/l or Less and the pH is greater than 6.5 and Less than 9.0.
Run-off from the material storage area located below drainage area E and pond C does not go
through a treatment facility such as a sediment pond. The material storage area is located north
of the haul road along the old rail bed. Run-off from the haul road along the old rail bed does
not go through a treatment facility either. Run-off from these adjacent areas is controlled by
berms and ditches. A berm along the south side of the area contains drainage to the ditch on the
north side of the material storage area.
Run-off from the material storage area and haul road is directed to ditch D-El. Sediment traps
will be installed in ditch D-E1 as shown on Map 21-1. The sediment traps will be straw bales,
silt fences or other approved devices. The sediments traps will slow and remove sediment from
the run-off from the material storage area and haul road. The sample point for this SAE near
the dewatering valve for pond C.
• Run-off from the pump station located near the Deer Trail Ditch will not be contained in a
sediment pond. The pump station is located below old State I-Lghway 133 in a location where
sediment pond construction would be difficult. Run-off from the area disturbed by the pump
station construction will be filtered through a sediment trap such as straw bales, silt fences or
other approved devices. The location of the sediment trap for the pump house is presented on
Map 21-1.
No samples were obtained from any of the SAE's during the year.
Coal Member of Mesaverde
Thirteen drill holes were monitored during the 1999 sampling season. These holes were
monitored quarterly for 5eld pazameters and semi-annually for full suite laboratory analysis.
Data collected and evaluated is consistent with the baseline information provided in the permit
application. The mine construction work during 1997 required the elimination of four
monitored drill holes. These holes are DH 42, DH 52, DH 54 and DH 55 and were located near
the mine portals. Drill Holes DH-13 and DH-34b were eliminated by mining during 1999. Drill
Holes DH-57,57a and DH-58, 58a were added in conjunction with the Terror Creek Coal
Exploration Plan, with monitoring beginning in the fall of 1999.
. Conclusion
The results of the hydrologic monitoring conducted during the 1999 season indicate consistent
chemical and physical properties when compared with the baseline values provided in the permit
Page 4
