INTRODUCTION The 1991 Hydrologic Monitoring Annual Report for the Sanborn Creek Mine is hereby submitted by Somerset Mining Company in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board (MLR) and pursuant to the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. Sanborn Creek Mine, operated by Somerset Mining Company, is located near Somerset, Colorado, along State Highway 133. Elk Creek, Bear Creek, and Hubbard Creek flow across the permit area and into the North Fork of the Gunnison River (see Map 1). Elk Creek, which drains the eastern portion of the property, has intermittent, seasonal flow. Bear Creek is an ephemeral stream. Hubbard Creek is a perennial stream which drains the western portion of the permit area. Peak water flows occur during the snow runoff and increased precipitation in the Spring of each year. The monitoring stations for this program are: NF-1 Surface water station located along the North Fork just east of the Sanborn Creek Mine and adjacent to the old Bear #1 Mine property. This station has a continuous stream flow. NF-2 Surface water station located along the North Fork of the Gunnison River immediately upstream of the Bear #3 Mine and west of the Sanborn Creek Mine. U-1 Surface water station located along abandoned State Highway 133 approximately 0.5 miles east of the Sanborn Creek Mine. This station monitors both water quality and quantity. S-1 The upper S-1 surface monitoring station is located approximately 0.25 miles west of the Sanborn Creek Mine along the Sanborn Creek Drainage. This drainage flows intermittently and passes through the permitted area. I This station monitors water quality and quantity before it flows through the disturbed permitted area.
