J~ "
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III ~s
STATE OF CU~URADO
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OFNATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
October 5, 1988
Mr. Chris Reed, President
Twin Pines Investment Limited Partnership
Falcon Energy Inc, General Partner
P.O. Box 2059
Canon City, Colorado 81212
RE: Twin Pines #2 Mine (Permit C-83-058) Semi-Annual Hydrologic Reports
Dated December 3, 1987 and June 2, 1988
Dear Mr. Reed:
This letter is to acknowledge the Division's receipt of the above mentioned
Hydrologic Reports in satisfaction of Stipulation No. 1 and 2 of the Twin
Pines #2 mine permit, as amended.
The mine does not appear to be having any significant impact on the quantity
or quality of water resources in the area. Same clairification of statements
made in the June 2, 1988 report is, however, requested. In that report, it
was said that "The reservoir level in the abandoned mines increased to the
level of the probe hole into the Cedar Canon Mine which had previously quit
running." In the report dated December 3, 1987 and on the mine maps, however,
the Cedar Canon Mine was indicated to be dry. Is the statement in the
June 2, 1988 report a mistake? Do you in fact refer to a resumption of flow
from a probe hole into the old Twin Pines Mine?
The late May decrease in conductivity of the water being discharged from the
mine does appear to be significant and to imply less residence time in the old
mine. Is there any history available on that part of the old mine workings so
far as water level, quality, source of water that might provide some better
idea of what can be expected in the future?
The levels and quality of ground water occurring in the TPW-1 well appear to
be fairly constant over time. While quality has varied very little in the
Caldirola #2 well, water levels appear to be generally lower in the last two
years. This lowering, however, appeared before the significant increase in
water pumpage from the Twin Pines # 2 mine so there would not appear to be any
direct relationship between the two. Well TPW-1 is closer to the mine than is
the Caldirola #2 well, and its level is relatively stable, again suggesting
little
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
