1.0 INTRODUCTION
The first third-party monitoring sampling trip to Battle Mountain Resources, Inc.'s (BMRI)
San Luis Gold Project in Costilla County, Colorado took place on November 23 and 24,
1992. This Summary Report includes the following information: summary and assessment
of sampling activities; summary and assessment of analytical activities, and recommendations
for changes in the sampling and analytical protocol. The following documentation and data
are included as appendices in this report: Sampling and Reporting Guidelines for Third-
Party Monitor (Appendix A); Sampling Observation Documentation, consisting of copies of
field notes (Appendix B); Chain-of-Custody Documentation (Appendix C); Analytical
Rem lts, consisting of verbatim analytical results from Core Laboratories (Ap endix D), and
Laboratory Quality Control Report (Appendix E). + l i ~ ~ ,;. ~ /,ti(.~; ~ .- ~ , `-~ ~t f
2.0 SUMMARY AND ASSESSMENT OF SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
One surface water location, three process points and three groundwater wells were sampled
during the November 23-24, 1992 sampling trip. The sampling locations were: RS-5 in the
Rito Seco Creek; the lower tailings pond; the upper tailings pond; the collection pond; well
M-9; well M-12, and well M-13. Three sampling quality control (QC) samples were taken:
one field blank, one duplicate (at the collection pond) and one rinse blank (taken after the
collection pond sample). A summary of the types of samples collected at each location and
the analytes determined is provided in Tables 1 and 2. Assessment of the sampling activities
is provided below.
The sampling effort proceeded relatively smoottily, except for the performance of the
groundwater pump. It was determined that the pump could not be turned up to its full
pumping rate because it was relatively new and still was being broken in. When the pump
was turned up to its full pumping rate, the pump would cut out. This lengthened the
sampling time required for the groundwater wells.
2.1 Field Measurements
Halepaska and Associates used Field Data Collection Sheets, as described in TR-0006 (pg.
5). The collection of all 5eld data in a 5eld notebook may be preferable to the use of these
sheets. The information on sheets is easier to alter than information written in ink on
bound and numbered pages in a field notebook. Unused portions of the page, and unused
pages, are marked with a diagonal line to avoid later entry of information. Any cross-outs
or changes should be initialed by the person entering the field information (see Appendix
B).
RCG/Hagier, BaiUy, Inc
