Monitoring Results
..
During 1993, quarterly surface water measurements were obtained at each of the three stations
located on Stollsteimer Creek. These samplings were conducted during March, June, September
and December. Semiannual water quality analyses were conducted during the June and
December samplings. Well sites in the Stollsteimer Alluvium were sampled following their
installation in August 1993.
Methods
During visits to each station, flow measurements were made by stretching a 100 foot tape across
a surveyed cross-section of the creek and checking cross-section depth. Velocity was also
checked to determine the flow rate. Crest gauges, which were established at each station during
1986, were also serviced during each visit to the site. Water quality was collected by grab
samples at each station.
Depth to water was measured in groundwater wells to the nearest hundredth of a foot using an
electric line. Groundwater samples were collected with a hand bailer after evacuating three
casing volumes of water.
During samplings for water quality, temperature was measured in the field with a hand
thermometer. All other parameters were collected in precharged bottles and submitted to
Chemtech Laboratory in Salt Lake City for analyses. Methods of analysis were consistent with
EPA standard testing procedures.
Surface Water
Results of all surface water measurements made during 1985 through 1993 are contained in
Appendix 1. A summary of major chemical parameters and flow is presented in Table 1.
Flow data collected at the surface stations on Stollsteimer Creek during 1993 varied from 4.4 cfs
at station S-3 in November to a high of 9.6 cfs at station S-2 in September. Flow was too high
to measure during March. As indicated from the flow records, 1993 was a typical water year
with high flows in the spring and early summer and low flows during fall and winter. However,
record rains were received during the period of August and September. Storm events received
are as follows:
August 18 2.5 inches
August 20 2.0 inches
August 21 2.5 inches
August 28/29 3.5 inches
September 13 2.3 inches
4
