' 1. INTRODUCTION
' Haley & Aldrich, Inc. was retained by Cooley Gravel Company (Cooley) to investigate and provide a
solution for the existing slope stability problem at Cooley's Morrison Quarry. The area of instability
' is located along the eastern wall of the central pit and extends north-northwest from the southern end
of the pit for approximately 5t)D ft. In addition to providing recommendations and a grading plan for
the portion of slope that is presently failing, Haley & Aldrich has also been requested to develop a
' revised mine plan extending up to an additional approximately 500 k to the north to a "nose" of
unmined rock.
' To date, Haley & Aldrich has undertaken the following work scope in fulfillment of project goals
1. Accumulated and evaluated existing hackground information.
' 2. Coordinated detailed topographic surveying of the active pit slope using optical survey and
laser profiler techniques to generate new topographic base maps and sections through the
subject slope for use in geologic mapping and slope stability calculations.
3. Performed preliminary geologic Held mapping of the active pit slope.
' 4. Reduced, synthesized and evaluated existing and new geologic field data.
5. Performed engineering analyses and evaluation of overall pit slope and individual bench
' stability.
6. Prepared this report recommending interim reconfiguration of the slope and subsequent
' reassessment of slope conditions and stability, including review comments by Cooley, for
submittal to Jefferson County (JeffCo).
' In addition to these completed tasks, Haley & Aldrich plans to meet with Cooley and JeffCo to
discuss and incorporate any regulatory review comments and suggestions in a proactive manner to
facilitate progress towards remedial slope reconstruction.
LJ
L

' ~(~~
