The report contains an "interim" (or,
possibly final) mine plan for re-mining and stabilization of the east highwalls in the central
pit of the Morrison Quarry. This mine plan is in response to Cooley Gravels' need to re-
mine and stabilize this area of the quarry so that quarrying can continue deeper and to the
south as the current mine plan allows. This interim mine plan is also in response to Mr. Bill
York-Feirns inspection of October 16, 1992, my follow-up letter and request for
"emergency" administrative approval to extend the limit of disturbance to Mr. Carl Mount of
October 23, 1992, and your response to Cooley Gravel's request of October 28, 1992.
Due to the need for more adequate ground control (surveying and mapping) than was
currently in Cooley's possession, and poor weather, the mine plan and investigation was
delayed. Cooley is currently awaiting Jefferson County administrative approval to increase
the limits of mining 80ft. to the east. A copy of the letter to Jeffco requesting the
administrative zoning approval is enclosed for your review.
Upon Jefferson County approval, re-mining of the eastern quarry will commence exactly as
the report recommends. Also, upon Jeffco approval, the appropriate amendment describing a
revised mine and reclamation plan will be submitted to the Division as per Bill York-Feirn's
condition in his report of April 20, 1993, which I received on May 24, 1993. Cooley hopes
to meet the June 30 deadline for this amended mine and reclamation plan for the central and
south areas of the Morrison Quarry, as also requested in Mr. York-Feirns' letter. Cooley
Gravel understands the need to clarify the existing, amended mine plan for this area of the
quarry currently permitted under M73-021. There is a major discrepancy contained within
the 1982 amendment between the narrative describing mining and backfilling (including the
"profile"schematic) and the mine plan map.
- AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER -
Bituminous Roadways of Colorado.
