one nest. Although the three nesting locations are relatively close to each other, all were active
in 1997. Eagles were observed incubating on a nest at each site in April. It is not known how
many young hatched or fledged from those nests later in the year.
SANDHILL CRANE ACTIVI'T'Y
No sandhill cranes were seen on the permit area during searches conducted in April. On
23 April, a lone individual was seen in a drainage near the junction of the mine access road and
the county road known as 20-Mile Road.
