Tows of Crested ~utte
P.O. Box 39
Crested Butte, Colorado 81224
-A National Historic District-
June 20, 1994
Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology
1313 Sherman Street Room 215
Denver CO 80203
Attn: Ms, Barbara Chiappone
Phone: (303)349-5338
FAX: (303)349-6626
RE: Permit No, M-81-002
Mountain View Pit
Dear Ms, Chiappone,
Enclosed is the annual fee together with the notice of intent to
continue mining operations, It is mY understanding that the fee
is for the previous Year of mining antl reclamation, The permit
was transferred to the Town of Crested Butte on January 28, 1994,
Mining operations ceased in December, 1993. The Town Council
decided not to continue the mining operation this spring, Only
previously mined antl crushed materials are being removed from the
pit site at this time,
I recognize that your regulations will change on July 1, 1994, The
Town has not determined any use of the ranch property in the future
other than that 75~ of it will remain as open space. Currently the
Town leases the ranch where the pit is located from the Trust for
Public Land,
At this point I think we need some guidance from you and Mr, Stevens
as to how we should proceed. The reclamation plan for the pit was
to leave the remaining pit walls at 60-70 degrees with no vegetation,
That is approximately the condition of the walls now with the
cessation of mining, I am sending a copy of this letter to
Mr, Stevens in an effort to get direction as to how we should proceed,
I will be out of the office June 21-25 but will call you on my
return June 27,
Sincerely,
~~ J
William V, Crank
Town Manag r
WVC:11p
