PETROLEUM PRODUCTS -VAPOR OIL -MILL BUILDING
Vapor oil is used in the ore milling process. It is delivered by tanker truck and
transferred into a 32,000 gallon storage tank in the mill building. :should
economic conditions change, the 32,000 gallon diesel storage tank c~3n and
wilt be used to store vapor oil. The storage tanks are underlain by a concrete
floor and surrounded by a 23.75 foot by 60 foot by 3.8 foot high concrete
retainer wall. The enclosure provides routing of any spill in the containment
to the tailings impoundment.
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS -CONTRACTOR'S FUELS, OILS & GREA;iES
During the construction of the new conveyor system at Henderson Mill, there
will be several outside contractors working onsite. Contractors will be
subject to the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan
incorporated into this MCP/SPCC by reference. A copy of the contrac;tor's
SPCC plan is attached as Appendix F.
PHOSPHORUS PENTASULFIDE -GENERAL
The phosphorus pentasulfide powder itself is noncorrosive but produces
hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) and phosphoric acid IH3P04) when exposed to
water. If the material combines with water in an area other than in the Nokes
building, it should be neutralized by washing with dilute caustic. Land spillage
should be cleaned up and taken to the mill for re-use, if possible, or disp~~sed
of as waste according to applicable regulations.
PHOSPHORUS PENTASULFIDE - NOKES BUILDING
Phosphorus pentasulfide (P2S5) is delivered by truck in 4,000 pound
aluminum tote bins which are stored on the dock of the Nokes building north
of the mill (Figure 2). Total storage capacity is 20 tote bins or SO,t)00
pounds. Sodium hydroxide and phosphorus pentasulfide are combined in an
8,830 gallon Nokes mixing tank and then moved to a 21,800 gallon storage
tank inside the mill building. Any P2S5 which might spill from a tote bin
should be shoveled up and put into the P2S5 feeder system and fed into the
Nokes mix tank. A liquid Nokes (P2S5/NaOHlH2O) spill inside the Nokes
building should be captured by a containment sump and pumped to the
thickener.

Page 8
