of dewatering the tailings by the belt press will be in operation. <br />1 The procedures utilized for placement and compaction of the <br />coarse and fine mixture will be carried out similar to that <br />conducted in the interim procedures. To assist in implementation <br />of these procedures, guideline specification for the refuse pile <br />and related elements are presented in the sections which follow. <br />CLEARING. STRIPPING AND SITE GRADING <br />J Clearing should consist of the removal and disposition of <br />boulders, trees, brush, down timber, logs, trash and other growth <br />and objects on or above the ground surface. <br />Brush, stumps, down timber, and partially buried logs and snags <br />should be removed completely from areas to be occupied by fill <br />and these areas should be stripped of topsoil. On areas <br />contiguous to the toe lines of fill sections, brush should be cut <br />off and areas should be prepared as specified for areas to be <br />occupied by fill. Cleared materials should not be placed in the <br />fill sections or left on the work area. <br />Grubbing should also be performed in all areas to be occupied by <br />fill. Grubbing consists of removal and deposition of stumps, <br />roots, buried logs, boulders, and other objectionable material <br />below the ground surface. Stumps, roots over 1-1/2 inches in <br />' diameter, buried logs and boulders should be removed completely. <br />' All topsoil in the area to be occupied by fill and areas <br />contiguous to the fill areas should be removed to its full depth <br />' and stockpiled in areas which will not impact the deposition of <br />the coal refuse.
