.~
10) In response to your question of whether certain inactive
wells, specifically D-l, D-2, D-3, E-2 and F-1, should be
abandoned, my thoughts are as follows: The D seam wells
may be abandoned, as the D seam was never mined and lies
below the E seam which was mined. The operator has
demonstrated negligible impact to the D seam, and as
there is no indication that the D seam is an artesian
aquifer, no additional impacts are expected. E-2 may be
abandoned if monitoring continues in well E ?'~ It would
be to the operator's advantage to monitor water levels in
at least one well or piezometer in each of the
potentially affected aquifers until bond release time, or
at least to have them available for monitoring at final
bond release time. Therefore, it would not be a good
idea to abandon well F-1 at this time, as this appears to
be the only well completed in the F seam which lies only
about 25 feet above the E seam. Also, at least one
alluvial well should be maintained in the permit area.
If you or the operator have any questions, please let me know.
BLP
