~~
J
•

Samples of mine discharges and mine inflows
were taken during 1988. Most samples were tested
for ph, electrical wnductivity, total suspended
solids, total dissolved solids, and total iron.
Results of the analyses are shown in Table 4. The
quality of water sampled is good and poses no
problem for discharge to a sediment pond or in
some cases, direct discharge to a stream or other
surface feature. Mine water from portal #2 is
discharged to sediment pond MB-1. In years when
water is discharged from the Sylvester Gulch fan
Monitoring Activitiu
discharge point, it goes directly into Sylvester
Creek.
The mine water balance, based on some
actual and some estimated flows, is shown in
Table 5. The quantity of water discharged or
pumped from the mine was approximately 17 acre
feet. Water unaccounted for is lost through
seepage and evaporation into the ventilating air.
Both of these losses can be substantial depending
on conditions.
TABLE 4 Quality of Mine Water at the Mt.
