Following are Minrec's responses to those
comments
Surface Water
The Division noted that the conductivity measurements taken during
September on Ward Creek, increase significantly from the upstream
to the downstream sampling point. I do not believe the available
monitoring data supports this observation. Enclosed is a table
titled Ward Creek Late Season Flows. This table shows, for the
period of record 1982 - 1993, the average increase in conductivity
between the upstream and downstream monitoring points is 159
umhos/cm. The comparable increase in the conductivity measurement
for both 1992 and 1993 is 150 umhos/cm which is actually just below
the historic average increase.
Also enclosed is a graph of the conductivity measurements for
upstream and downstream Ward Creek taken during from 1982 through
1993. This graph supports the conclusion that the conductivity in
lower Ward Creek is following historic trends.
Minrec will continue monitoring Spring 1 and Spring 3 to observe
whether the conductivity continues to increase. It should be noted
that both Spring 1 and Spring 3 have recorded historic high
conductivity measurements when they were also exhibiting historic
high flows. The historic high for Spring 1 occurred May 26, 1983;
990 umhos/cm at 35 gpm. The historic high for Spring 3 occurred
September 18, 1993; 750 umhos/cm at 6 gpm.
Minrec will continue to monitor Ward Creek in accordance with
permit requirements. However, there is no indication the
