One general observation was noted
regarding reference to permit maps. The AHR text references Map 8 of the permit document.
Map 8 is a soils map. The hydrology maps are Maps 7A and 7B of the permit. Please correct
this reference in future reporting.
Surface Water quantity and Quality
Two stations on the Purgatoire River are monitored for flow and field parameters on a quarterly
basis, and a lab sample is analyzed on an annual basis. PRS-2 is located upstream of all
Golden Eagle mining activities and PRS-3 is located downstream of all mining activities. One
water sample was acquired at each of these locations, in accordance with the annual sample list
on page 2.05-47d, Table 23 of the permit. One error was noted in the 1999 data for these
stations. The conductivity value for November is improperly entered in millimhos/cm
(mmhos/cm) rather than micromhos/cm (umhos/cm). For the water year, flow is slightly lower
(3.5%) at the downstream site and salinity is slightly higher, with total dissolved solids (TDS)
values recorded of 190 mg/I and 200 mg/I from upstream to downstream. Overall water quality
is acceptable according to the standards for all uses.
Sediment ponds 3 and 4 were removed in January 1999 and point source discharge no longer
occurs at this site.
Ground Water Quantity and Duality
Data collected during 1999 supports last year's observation that overburden ground water levels
are recovering. All overburden bedrock water levels continue to recover.
