The reclaimed acres were broadcast seeded with a hand broadcast seeder.
The area planted is detailed on Exhibit 2.41 "Annual Reclamation Map".
The date of planting was in the third week of October, 1984. Because weather conditions
deteriorated much earlier than normal last fall, the approved seed mix for the Mesa
Gravel Pit was not yet available when seeding should have taken place. Since Seed Mix
No. I for the Seneca Mine was available and it included species beneficial for erosion
control and soil conditioning, it was used in place of the Mesa Gravel Pit seed mix as an
emergency measure. The proper seed mix will be ordered earlier during the 1984 season
to insure its availability at time of seeding.
5. The type and approximate quantity of fertilizers, organic material, or soil condition-
ers used and location of use.
RESPONSE:
No fertilizers, organic material or soil conditioners were used during the last year the
the Mesa Gravel Pit.
6. An appraisal of the success of reclamation efforts and in the event of failure of any
efforts, a short narrative on the suspected or determined cause of such failure.
RESPONSE:
At this time, the reclamation seeding is entering its first full growing season. Moisture
has been more than adequate while seasonal temperatures have been lower than normal.
Seed germinating this spring has established a good stand of vegetation. Observations
this fall will be made to document the levels of establishment, species becoming estab-
lished and any remedial action necessary such a rill and gully erosion repair, spot seeding,
weed control or fertilizer amendments (added only if species show obvious signs of nutri-
ent deficiency problems).
-3-
