BoX 518 <br />Somerset, Colorado 81434 <br />Attention: Dan Bear <br />Re: Slope Stability monitoring, <br />Landslide East of Portal, Bear Mine No. 3. <br />This survey is based on 2 control monuments located across the <br />canyon on the property of the Somerset Mining Company (formerly <br />Kaiser Coal Company), that have been in place for several years. <br />The monuments are referred to as D-11-U and D-12-U. See Map for <br />location. The monuments are 3-inch pipe with a 4-inch plate so <br />the elevation will be fixed for each reading. The coordinates of <br />the monuments are: <br />Northing Easting Elevation <br />D-11-U 405,065.78 1,440,549.57 6185.92 <br />D-12-U 405,418.32 1,441,625.51 6195.50 <br />These coordinates and elevations will remain fixed and all other <br />points will be relative to them. <br />EXISTING SLOPE STABILITY STATIONS: <br />U 16 3-inch pipe monument <br />U 17 3-inch pipe monument <br />U 18 3-inch pipe monument <br />U 19 Destroyed by landslide <br />U 23 /~7 Rebar in concrete <br />U 24 Destroyed by landslide <br />On April 18, 1996, UTE Engineering established new slope <br />stability monitoring stations U51 through U62 on and around the <br />area of the active landslide located to the East of the Mine Por- <br />tals. See attached map for location. All Stations are ~5 Rebar <br />with exception of U61 which is the top of the fan structure at <br />the Northwest Corner of the concrete. Dates of surveys are shown <br />in the table below. <br />
