DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getchee, Executive Director
i~~iiiiiiiiiiiir
999
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Dlroctor
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
DATE: April 23, 1984
T0: Bob Liddle
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: Colorado Westin

.'s Subsidence Response, Permit No. C-038-83
Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed Colorado Westmoreland Inc.'s
subsidence response, dated April 9, 1984. The operator, in response to my
earlier comments, has indicated that mining is scheduled to occur beneath the
amended high-resolution subsidence monitoring grid installed above panel 2E-iN
off the 9th east mains at the Orchard Valley Mine. Extraction of this
particular panel is now scheduled to occur during the late summer of 1984.
I continue to be concerned about the implications the lack of definitive
subsidence monitoring data will have for permitting the impending application
for lease C-37210, referenced in the applicant's response letter. As
expressed in my earlier memos, the lack of definitive information regarding
the nature and mechanics of subsidence will necessitate conservancy in
permitting mining beneath sensitive areas.
/ep
cc: Ed Bischoff
Doc.
