reported slightly Power flows in 2002.-than 2001 which may be due to lower than average
• precipitation in months May through October. All stations except for Piceance Creek below
Ryan Gulch had lower than average flows for the period of record. Flow for Piceance Creek
~J
I~
below Ryan Gulch was 11.6 cfs for years 2.001 and 2002, which is significantly below average.
Industrial activity at C-a and C-b Oil Shale Tracts may have influenced flows (higher) during
period of record, especially station 62A2 (Corral Gulch) near C-a tract: No significant effects on
stream flow have been noted or expected during NSI operation (1990-2002).
Review of USGS stream water quality data indicates no significant change in stream water
quality through 2002. Therefore, no effect on stream water quality was noted from the NSI
operation.
6.1.5 Monitoring Wells
Dedicated monitoring wells have been constructed to monitor four water-bearing zones, the
Dissolution Surtace, B-Groove, A-Groove and Perched aquifers, see Figure 5-1 for location of
monitoring wells. The aquifers are monitored at five sites; immediately down-gradient of mining
operation, up-gradient at two locations, remote down-gradient and east in panel. 2. Eighteen
monitoring wells were completed with water samplers to obtain water quality samples from
discrete zones. A total of seventeen wells are equipped with continuous water level
measurement transducers and data acquisition and storage systems.
34
