A new horizontal well pair was planned in panel #2 and possibly a second vertical recovery
• well for 1A cavity. Cavity #3 injection well 93-4AH was to be plugged and abandoned. A
new subsidence well was planned to monitor panel #2 mining effects
3.1.2 Actual Project Activities
NSI produced 77,513 tons of sodium bicarbonate in year 2003 using cavities #1A, 5H and 6H.
The plant was maintained on a constant production schedule throughout the year. Routine
outages were pertormed every three to four months to clean out scale buildup in the plant and
perform repairs/improvements. The plant and wells were down for short periods of less than
24-hour outages resulting from well rework, pump problems, replacement of valves and
equipment, and power outages. Emphasis for the year was placed on increasing production
efficiencies throughout the plant and maintaining production with increased flow and brine
grade from the wellfield.
The following items were accomplished in 2003:
/ Submitted Sundry Notice to recomplete production well 1-3A to a Dissolution Surface
aquifer monitoring well, permit number CO-3358-04646.
/ Subsidence monitoring well 2M-TDR was drilled and completed to a depth of 1833' with
four TDR cables. There was evidence of damage to the cables during the cement phases
and all four cables failed.
/ Well 3M-TDR was drilled and completed on the same pad as 2M-TDR to a depth of 1833'
with four TDR cables. At year-end two cables were operational.
4
