Seed
germination and survival of small shrubs imported from the new
mining area appears moderatly successful.
The area which was seeded in late 1986 was inspected, and it was
found that only a minor amount of the seed appeared to have
germinated, or survived after germination, although a substantial
growth of "tumbleweeds" did germinate. The soil in the area is
very poor, being primarily weathered gypsum. Seeding was again
attempted in this area with very little success.
The small (.59 acre) area on the north end of the disturbed area
at the location of new mining activity which was reclaimed by
replacing topsoil over some of the operation and storage in 1987
was found to be needed for material stockpile again. The seeded
topsoil, and slash were removed from the area and placed back in
stockpile.
