:~
~~ ~~,~ ~ c.C~~
May 3, 1988
Addendum to Discharge Monitoring Report
Walden Coal Company had discharge from two of its
four sedimentation ponds during the first quarter of 1988.
Discharge from these ponds was the direct result of snowmelt
runoff.
The pH of water samples taken from the discharge
ranged from 6.0 to 6.4. Water samples taken from Mann Draw as
it entered the Bourg property (i.e unaffected by mining
activity), had pH's of 5.2 and 6.3 during the same period of
time. For some reason, unknown to Walden Coal Company,
natural pH levels were below those allowed by our C.P.D.E.S.
permit.
Total settlable solid levels were in compliance for
discharge point 001. Discharge point 003 (C pond) had a total
settlable solid value of 0.6. This can be explained by the
fact that C pond had not held water for several years. The
dust which had accumulated in the pond was picked up and
subsequently discharged with the short term flow.
