Shelton
Re: Notice of Intent to Continue Mining
Delta Sand and Gravel Co.
Permit ~~ 77-20, Pit ~p 1
Dear Mr. Shelton:
Our anniversary date for this permit is March 28. Due to the
poor economic condition of the Delta County area our mining
operations were very limited during the past year. We continue
to operate in our Stage 1 area as outlined and accepted in our
conversion and amendment dated 1980.
During 1983 and 1984 extensive flooding of the Gunnison River
took place and after the 1983 flood the flood damage was cleaned
up and some temporary dikes were installed in order to prevent
re-occurance in 1984. L~'ater was much higher in 1984, but our pit
was not flooded nor any damage was experienced because of our
preventive action.
Annual report questions as outlined in Section 2:41 of the rules
and regulations are answered as follows:
1. Approximately 4 acres was mined of the final 8' in Stage 1.
See attached map.
2. No reclamation is required until mining in Stage 1 is complete.
3. Not applicable.
4. Not applicable.
5. Not applicable.
6. Not applicable.
7. Mining will continue in Stage 1 next year on the final 8'.
If economic conditions improve this year, we may move to
Stage 2, but this is not anticipated due to the closing of
six of our nine coal mines in the area and the reduction of
approximately 70% of the personnel in the remaining three mines.
8. Effective date of this information contained is March 20, 1985.
