DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES •" ""'999"---- -
David H. Getches, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Director _
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
December 24, 1986
Mr, Larry M. Reschke
Project Engineer
Grand Mesa Coal Company
P.O. Box 1351
Palisade, Colorado 81526
Re: Subsidence Monitoring, Red Canyon Mine, File No. C-81-034
Dear Mr. Reschke:
The Division has reviewed the results of the subsidence survey completed in
September and received on October 27, 1986. This survey was the fourth
completed since June 1985 and subsequent to the initial baseline survey done
in February 1982. Sufficient data now exists to estimate the magnitude of
subsidence at the Red Canyon Mine. Based on the limited amount of subsidence
indicated to be occurring as present, and the temporary cessation status of
the mine, your request to suspend monitoring is warranted and can be approved
at the present time.
The revision to the current subsidence monitoring program that you requested
will be considered as part of Technical Revision No. 2 following the midterm
review.
If you have any questions on this, please contact me.
Sincerely,
x

John T.
