• • Ill 1111111111111111
STATE OF COLOIv~,~v
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
MEMORANDUM
4 August 1987
T0: Cathy Begej ~` ~ r_~~
FROM: Jim Pendleton ~,~'~
RE: Colorado Wes an Ines. Semi-Annual Subsidence Monitoring Report
Permit No: C-82-038)
I have reviewed the semi-annual subsidence monitoring survey data report for
the Orchard Valley Mine, which you forwarded to me. The survey data appears
clearly and accurately tabulated within the report. Jim Miller, the Mine
Engineer and author of the report's cover letter, states in the cover letter
that no subsidence has occurred during this period of observation, MY
examination of the data report determined that subsidence has continued to
develop above the panels off the 5th North submains off the 8th East mains.
Vertical settlement of up to 0.35 feet and associated vertical rise of up to
0.59 feet were documented. This sort of cantilever adjustment is not
unusual. A visual inspection conducted above the workings detected no
evidence of subsidence disruption of the ground surface.
Jim Miller's cover letter also mentions that the 1st West submains developed
from the new West Portals were relocated slightly due to bad roof fall
conditions encountered at their original planned location, This is not a high
priority, but the operator should amend the mine plan maps appropriately prior
to submission of their next Annual Hydrology and Subsidence Report.
cc: Bob Liddle
-C~,l~
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
