2.0 MONITORING METHODS <br />2.1 SURFACE SITES <br />During each sampling event, in-situ water quality measurements of temperature, conductivity, and <br />pH were made. An expanded list of water quality analyses was conducted during the quarterly <br />samplings which were sent to a commercial analytical laboratory. Prior to any field sampling, the <br />field meters were calibrated to known standards. <br />Water quantity or flow measurements were conducted by a number of methods. At the beginning <br />of the program, a straight, flat, stable reach of each stream station was selected as a sampling <br />location. Neaz the downstream end of the reach, across-section was surveyed perpendicular to the <br />stream flow and permanently marked with stakes and flagging. Flow was measured with a <br />Teledyne-Gurley Model 625 Pygmy type current meter (or similar device) using the USGS <br />six-tenths-depth method or cutthroat flume. <br />2.2 GROUNDWATER SITES <br />Depth to water below the top of the well casing was measured to the nearest tenth-foot using an <br />electric line water level detector. Water quality was sampled in the field directly from the wells with <br />a hand bailer. The wells were cleared by bailing at least three columns of water prior to collecting <br />the sample. Internal pumps were used onthe SF- and NM-series wells through June 1996 when they <br />were pulled. Equipment and procedures used for water chemistry analysis were consistent with those <br />described above for surface water. <br />2000AHReP~~rl-RPT(192)/April 19, 2001 12 <br />
