Roadside Refuse Disposal Area Inspection - 3rd Quarter 2002
checked this channel configuration to assure it would pass the design flow with adequate
freeboard. This as-built Segment A will pass the design flow with a freeboard of 1.3 feet.
Segment A also has a section that has 15% grade instead of the 3% grade called for in
the original design. I checked the riprap size in the channel at the 15% grade. The D~
riprap size is 15" instead of the 9" called for in the original design. I do not consider this a
significant concern since the contractor placed larger riprap through this 15% section.
Segment B is is a trapezoidal channel with a 3-foot wide bottom, 23% grade and 3.11
feet deep with freeboard. There are segments of this as-built channel segment that are
up to 35% grade. I checked the riprap size in the channel at the 35% grade. The Dso
riprap size is 18" instead of_the 15" called for in the original design. I do not consider this
a significant concern. The ditch segments that are only 2-feet deep will pass the design
flow. The design flow in all of the segments is less than 0.4 feet. Therefore, the as-built
freeboard in the shallow sections of the ditch is 1.6 feet. Ditch Segment C was not
constructed during the quarter. This ditch segment will be constructed after Pond 9 is
removed.
The two benches were also finished during the quarter. The benches have a grade of
approximately 5% to the inside and approximately 2% north toward a drainage channel.
A failure of the pile would probably not be a hazard to human life. Even though the pile
is fairly close to the Interstate 70 east bound lanes, if the coal mine waste bank failed, it is
unlikely the material would move far enough to encroach upon the freeway.
I certify that to the best of my knowledge and belief with the exceptions noted above, that
,m=a
the fill and other aspects of the roadside refus~~~g® dt'~~® ave been constructed as
permitted in the design approved by the DNl~,°r ; E STO~~'o9 /
f
~ en~s~ a~5` r Date
Attachments: ~~i0'f ~ t
~oaaL
Pictures of erosional feature
SEDCAD 4 Check Calculations:
Segment A with 1.5% slope and 2'-depth
Segment A riprap size
Segment B riprap size
