. No unusual observations are noted with respect to Foidel Creek alluvium groundwater levels. The historical <br />increasing conductivity trend in well 001-S-5 (Figure 32) appears to be continuing in 2002. A trend showing a <br />slight increase in TDS concentrations at Foidel Creek alluvium at well 008-AV-2 (Figure 36) appears to be <br />continuing in 2003. TCC will continue to monitor the direction of this vend. <br />No unusual observations are noted with respect to Fish Creek alluvium groundwater levels. The general water <br />level decline noted in well 006-AY-l (Figure 38) since 1995, appears to continue in 2003. Overall, fluctuations <br />at this well are insignificant. No other notable water level observations are apparent based upon review of the <br />2002 data. Field conductivity readings at this well appear stable over the last few years. Two new alluvial wells <br />(AVF-13 and AVF-14) were installed in August 2001, and one (AVF-15) in June 2002. The only unusual <br />observation made to date were elevated iron concentrations, some of which may be related to subsidence <br />ponding, however, the data base for these sites will require expanding before a complete assessment can be made <br />(see discussion of related surface sites SW-13 through SW-15 on Fish Creek below). <br />Monitoring was initiated at Middle Creek alluvial well AVM-1 during 1996. During 2002, no unusual <br />observations are noted with respect to the Middle Creek alluvium groundwater levels. No unusual observations <br />are noted with water quality characteristics comparable to other alluvial wells in the area. <br />Surface Water: Recorded surface water flows for Foidel Creek, Fish Creek, and Trout Creek were generally <br />. low in comparison to TCC's historic record. This is undoubtedly associated with general drought conditions seen <br />in 2003, although not as severe as that seen in 2002. <br />TDS concentrations at site 1005 on Trout Creek, downstream of all mining operations, peaked at 770 mgA in <br />March (during a period when TCC was no[ discharging to Fish Creek). TDS concentrations at site 800 on Foidel <br />Creek, upstream of the mine facilities, peaked at 3400 mg/1 in August. TDS concentrations at site 8 on Foidel <br />Creek, downstream of the mine facilities, peaked at 3600 mg/1 in August. No other notable water quality <br />impacts are evident at any surface water sites monitored during 2003. <br />On Fish Creek, three new surface sites SW-13, SW-14, and SW-15 (Tables 56 through 58, respectively) all <br />indicated elevated concentrations for total recoverable iron in early June 2003, however iron concentrations <br />dropped dramatically (about an order of magnitude) by August 2003. With the exception of total recoverable <br />iron, none of the values recorded during the initial sampling episode fell outside the typical historical range of <br />other surface sites on Fish Creek, TCC Site 115 discharged upstream of these sites during early June, however <br />iron concentrations were an order of magnitude less than that detected at the three sites. In addition, a sample <br />collected from Fish Creek site 16A (upstream of TCC discharge site 115), collected later that June indicated <br />somewhat elevated iron concentrations, as did site 302, located upstream of SW-13, at a time when site 115 had <br />not been discharging. Therefore, TCC does not appear to have contributed to these elevated iron concentrations. <br />Historical iron concentrations typically peak during spring mnoff (although these appear higher than normal), <br />which is probably related to accelerated erosion effects. The data base for SW-13, SW-14, and SW-15 will need <br />to be expanded before maximum and minimum values can be accurately evaluated. This anomaly will continue <br />18 <br />
