8. BRL indicates that there is no winter monitoring/access for the majority of ponds. However,
the following pazameters were not provided for the required pond monitoring for the remainder
of the year:
• Quarterly flow and field parameters for second quarter, and annual water quality analysis
for Pond 3-6.
• Water levels for the fourth quarter for the majority of ponds, with the exception of Pond
89.
The Division notes that field parameters and analyses were reported for several ponds that are
not part of the required monitoring program including: Ponds 14-1, 14-3, and 11-8.
9. For future AHR submittals, it would be helpful if the baseline information was presented in the
AHR. This would provide a quick reference to baseline data and would allow for a simple
means for determining trends in water quality. The current format presents minimum,
maximum, and average values for the current monitoring year. It would be preferable if these
columns were replaced with baseline values. Please comment.
1998 Annual Subsidence Report
The text summary pazagraphs describing the mining involvement related to each of the wide-grid
subsidence monuments was cleaz, thorough and informative. The Division does have three
comments for this section:
10. The subsidence monitoring stations aze located on map No. 2-5, "Permit Term and Long
Term Mine Planning". Unfortunately the monuments are indicated in pale yellow, which
renders them effectively indiscernible. BRL should select a discernable color for the
subsidence monuments and revise the map accordingly.
11. The subsidence monitoring results aze tabulated within the report. The data tables contain
several obvious survey busts and/or calculation errors. Specifically, the tables for Station
16, Station DH55, and Station DH66 appear to contain errors. These busts aze referenced
within the report survey station summary pazagraphs for Stations DH55 and DH66. An
equivalent reference should be inserted into the Station 16 summary paragraph. In
addition, the data tables should be annotated as well in future reports.
12. A reference is made to Map 2-SA, which is stated to delineate the locations of the seven
Pitkin Mesa Pipeline monitoring monuments. However, no copy of Map 2-SA was
included within the report. Please submit a copy of this map.
